At this year’s municipal holiday celebration on December 11th in the Linhart Hall in Radovljica, which coincided with the anniversary of Anton Tomaž Linhart’s birth, municipal awards were presented. Among the recipients was Janez Peternel, who received the Seal of the Municipality of Radovljica for his outstanding achievements in the breeding of the Lipizzaner horse breed.
Through years of effort and dedication, Janez has become one of the leading breeders in Slovenia. The Lipizzaner is a symbol of Slovenian horsemanship, and its breeding is closely tied to the preservation of traditions that date back to the time of the Habsburg monarchy.
In addition to being a part of the rich cultural heritage, the Lipizzaner breed is also recognized as UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage. This status is not only an honor but also a responsibility, as it involves the preservation and encouragement of continued breeding of these horses, as well as the nurturing of the knowledge, skills, and traditions associated with them.
The award ceremony for Janez in Linhart Hall held special significance, as it took place during the municipal holiday named after Anton Tomaž Linhart, one of Slovenia’s most important cultural figures. Linhart was a pioneer of Slovenian drama, but also a great lover and supporter of cultural activities in his homeland. With awards like the Seal of the Municipality of Radovljica, the municipality recognizes the achievements of those who, through their work and passion, have contributed to the preservation of Slovenian heritage.
Janez thus joins many other award recipients who, through their work, nurture and expand our cultural and natural heritage, which is especially important in a time when we strive to preserve this heritage for future generations.
Municipal awards like the Seal of the Municipality of Radovljica reflect respect and recognition for exceptional achievements in various fields. Janez, through his successes in Lipizzaner breeding, undoubtedly contributes to preserving this precious part of Slovenian and world cultural heritage, which will surely inspire future generations of horse and tradition enthusiasts.
This success is also supported by a broad team of professionals and friends who have helped along the way.
Once again, thank you to the team of the Lipizzaner Breeders Association and the Lipica Stud Farm for their expert support. And to all the friends who stand by our side!
